Miraculous Medal 14mm High Sterling Silver Pendant
Small Miraculous Medal with delicately designed border in the shape of a cross. Length 14mm. This Piece of Jewellery comes boxed. The Miraculous Medal, also known as the Medal of the Immaculate Conception, is a catholic medallion, the design of which originated from the visions that Saint Catherine Labouré had of the Blessed Virgin Mary. On the front of the oval shaped medal are the words, "O Mary conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee" these start at Mary's right hand on the medallion and continue over her head, and end on the other side of the medal at her left hand. According to an account written by St. Catherine's own hand, Mary was clothed in a robe of auroral light and her robe had a high neck and plain sleeves. The medal should also have half a globe upon which Mary's feet rest, hands raised up to her waist, fingers giving off rays of light. The reverse of the medal shows the twelve stars which refer to Christ's 12 Apostles. The cross symbolizes Christ and our redemption, with the bar under the cross a sign of the earth. The “M” stands for Mary, and the interleaving of her initial and the cross shows Mary’s close involvement with Jesus and our world. The two hearts represent the love of Jesus and Mary for us.
