The Virgin Mary, Our Lady of Lourdes, The image of Our Lady of Lourdes, comes directly from the visions of Saint Bernadette, where she saw the Virgin Mary dressed in white, with a golden rosary and a blue belt fastened around her waist along with two golden roses at her feet, she then spoke to Bernadette and asked that a church be built there. This apparition took place in February, 1858. Later In 1863, a statue of the Virgin was made, based directly on Bernadette's description. This original work was undertaken by Joseph-Hugues Fabisch. This figure was placed in the grotto where the visions took place at Lourdes, in south western France. The statue was dedicated on 4 April 1864 with as many as 20,000 pilgrims present. Bernadette was later canonized as a Saint in 1933. All subsequent images and statues of Our lady of Lourdes and St. Bernadette, come directly from the original statue made in 1863.
