Lectern Bible, Revised English Bible (REB) Red Imitation Leather Over Boards, by Cambridge Bibles
The Revised English Bible is a home-grown Bible version produced by scholars from all the main UK churches, some of whom had worked on the REB's predecessor version, the New English Bible, twenty years earlier. The translators strove to produce natural, everyday English that would lend itself to public worship. Each verse was read aloud to the other translators, to ensure that the sound rhythms and line endings worked well. The REB Lectern Bible has the same page numbers as Cambridge's REB Standard Text Bibles. Specially designed for public reading, it would make an exceptional gift for a church. The page numbering of this distinguished Lectern Bible is the same as that in the Cambridge REB Standard Text Bible, so the two are natural partners for use in church. The clear bold print and generous page design make it ideal for public reading. The paper is lightly toned for readability and thick enough for the pages to turn easily. The Revised English Bible updates the New English Bible, retaining the latter’s elegant literary style, but removing its archaisms. The REB employs a modest amount of inclusive language and is good for public reading. Like the NEB before it, the REB is a British translation, sponsored by all the main Christian denominations.
