Saint Jos, was the son of a 7th century king of Brittany. He gave up his wealth and position in favour of the life of a pilgrim and subsequently lived as a hermit near Etaples in northern France. When he died his body proved incorruptible and even his beard continued to grow. In the medieval period his hermitage became a hospital for English pilgrims bound for Compostela in Spain.
